Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology- ENVIS RP
Recognise as International Center for basic and applied research in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science
Environment Information System (ENVIS) Resource Partner (RP), IITM
The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MOEF&CC) is implementing a Central Sector Scheme known as ENVIS (Environmental Information Systems) since 1982 & in the year 2002-2003, IITM became Resource Partner to ENVIS on thematic area, “Atmospheric Pollution and Climate Change”.
The mandate of the ENVIS-IITM centre is to collect, compile and disseminate data on “Atmospheric Pollution and Climate Change”, which will be of immense use to several research organizations and other stakeholders.
In recent few years, understanding the expertise & vast network of ENVIS-HUBs & RPs, MOEF&CC has introduced new programs under ENVIS such as “Green Skill Development Program (GSDP)” & “National Environment Survey (NES)” under ENVIS.
IITM-Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP)
Green Skill Development Program (GSDP) is a visionary program of the Hon'ble Prime Minister implemented by the Environmental Information System Program of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
The network of various ENVIS RP's and Hubs has developed around 25 GSDP courses in the environmental protection and forest conservation field. After completing the courses, India's youth will become a strong contender for gainful employment and self-employment.
Most vocational training programmes focus on theoretical or classroom teaching rather than practical skill training. IITM GSDP is a perfect blend of classroom and on-field training by field area experts. Also, participants are encouraged to improve their presentation skills through various activities.
The participants will become skilled personnel and trustworthy stewards of the environment.
The salient features of the IITM- GSDP courses are as follows,
Training by renowned scientists, university professors and industry experts
Field visits and study tours at industry and research centres
Various innovative soft skill development activities
Placement assistance after the completion of the course
Our Courses
As a part of GSDP, IITM-ENVIS offers two Courses fully funded by Minstry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, GOI. The focus is more on hands-on practical training with classroom teaching.
Air Pollution Monitoring
This course is towards developing skills to monitor and measure air pollution, do sampling based on key field characteristics of the local area, make survey, interact with various polluters and get hands-on training. The program will also make master trainer who can spread this training further in future.
